News #2: New "Night Owl" tariff for everyone
We are introducing the optional "Night Owl" tariff from 1 July 2026 – available to all members, with or without your own PV system.
Why are we doing this?
With Night Owl, we want to make EGOT more future-proof. Two goals are at the heart of this:
🔋 Activating storage: If you own a battery, consider selling part of it to the community at night instead of leaving it unused. This strengthens the supply for all members exactly when it's needed most.
⏱️ Shifting consumption: If you move your usage to daytime hours between 8 am and 6 pm, you benefit from lower prices and relieve pressure on the grid during evening and night hours.
Why exactly 8 am to 6 pm?
A look at our production and consumption data shows it clearly: this is exactly the window where PV production and community consumption cross over – and from here on, a surplus of electricity is produced. Before and after this window, things are unfortunately much leaner.
Tips for shifting consumption to daytime
- 🌞 Washing machine & dryer: Use a timer or app to start cycles in the late morning or early afternoon.
- 🍽️ Dishwasher: Run it after lunch instead of in the evening.
- 🔥 Heat pump / water heater: Charge your buffer tank during the day so less electricity is needed in the evening.
- 🚗 EV charging: Where possible, shift charging to midday hours (8 am–6 pm) instead of charging overnight. Many wallboxes and EVs offer scheduled charging in their app, letting you set a start time like 10 am or noon. Our planned live-data app (see below) will make this even easier in the future.
- 🏊 Pool pump: Schedule filtration during midday hours instead of running it at night.
- 🤖 Smart home automation: Home Assistant, smart plugs, or energy management systems make this easy to automate.
- 🔋 Battery owners: Adjust your discharge strategy so that part of your storage is deliberately released to the community at night.
Every small adjustment helps – together we make our grid more stable and our energy community more independent.
⚠️ Important note for businesses and farmers: The new feed-in pricing under the Night Owl tariff is not yet available for business and agricultural members. For these members, the previous arrangement remains in place for now.

News #3: Future – Thinking ahead
We have applied for funding under an EU and Austrian support programme. With this, we want to take EGOT to the next level – through two concrete initiatives:
📱 Live data via app: Our main goal is to finally implement live data for the energy community. Through an app, every member would be able to see in real time how much electricity the community currently has available. This makes it much easier to steer your own consumption – for example, charging your EV – since you'll see directly when surplus is actually available, instead of relying on fixed time windows.
🔋 Community storage: We're also exploring whether the energy community itself could acquire battery storage. This would allow us to better supply all members with electricity during the night hours – regardless of whether individual members own their own battery.
Both projects are still at an early stage. As soon as there's news about the funding decision or progress, we will of course inform you with a dedicated newsletter.
